Saltwater casting reels have come a long way over the past decade! In years gone by a saltwater casting reel might make it through one season due to the harsh salt corrosion to the bearings and other function or moving components of the reel. With advancement in technology there are now newly designed reels that are better suited for saltwater and can last 5 years or more with the proper care. It’s also because of this advancement that some anglers consider their reels as “dual purpose” reels for both salt and freshwater use.
Just remember that the most important maintenance advice an experienced angler could ever give you is to rinse any saltwater tackle down after use, if its a reel, rod, line or lure…RINSE IT WELL!
